Walking for Wellspring – Honouring Queen Mickey’s Bougie Battalions

This year, I’m walking for someone who inspires me every single day — my beautiful friend Michelina.

Michelina, or “Queen Mickey” as we call her, is the heart of our team: Queen Mickey’s Bougie Battalions. She has faced challenges most of us can barely imagine, meeting them with a combination of strength, perseverance, grace, and — of course — a touch of bougie sparkle. Her courage leaves us in awe. Through every twist in her journey, she has shown what it means to live with determination and hope.

One of the places that has been a lifeline for her is Wellspring. She’s joined many of their programs — from fitness and wellness classes to supportive groups — and has found not just comfort, but a sense of belonging. She is part of a warm, welcoming community that understands and uplifts its members every day.

I know firsthand the difference Wellspring can make. Back in 2014, as a lymphoma patient, I found refuge there too — in the lymphoma support group, exercise classes, and the Look Good Feel Better program. Wellspring is a place where people can feel seen, supported, and never alone.

What many people don’t realize is that Wellspring runs entirely on donations and fundraisers. There’s no core government funding — every program, every class, and every moment of care exists because of generous donors.
