Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge

Climbing for memorials and survivors!

As a man ages he notices cancer affecting more and more people as a matter of perspective; to whatever end.  From the time I was 9yrs old to today it has taken people I know...

Last year I was climbing for my wife Donna who passed away in Nov 2020 from a particularly aggressive form of Breast CA (2.5 year late due to covid restrictions) and for a brother at the YKFD who was battling cancer and doing well enough to enjoy life and travel the world.  I had a blast and raised a respectable $5,700.00 for Wellspring.

Sadly our IAFF 2890 Brother Greg Pratt lost his battle on December 12, 2023 and this loss will be felt by us for years to come.  Its been tough getting motivated for this year but alas it is coming back...

This year I'll climb for his memory, and for those who are still surviving: my friend Paula Butz-Friesen (epic years long battle), my Uncle Marc Whitford (going through Tx.) my old Fire Chief John Fredricks (survived by a miracle of medicine)... and an old buddy from YK who lives in Cowtown now Dave Evoy 3 x or 5 x cancer survivor if you can believe that and a most excellent dude indeed.

oh and my old man, can't forget my Dad Tony (cancer free since 2011) and my parent-in-laws Ben and Lois (AKA Gon & Paw) in Regina who are both tough as nails survivors.  All of them still live independently,  Amazing!

Shout out to my Brother in Law John-Eric in Whitehorse.  A word for Shawn Roper of YK. chemo-sabe of Edmonton at the moment.

In Calgary getting used to the elevation did a bit of training, sore legs, but should be good for game day. Banya and cold plunge therapy helps.

My start time on June 9th is with the 1215hrs group.

G-d Bless you all.
