2026 Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge

Climbing for Our Own

I’m taking part in the Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge this June in support of Wellspring Alberta.

This one hits close to home. Working in emergency services, you get used to showing up on people’s worst days - but cancer is different. It doesn’t care who you are or what you do. I’ve seen it impact our own in ways that stick with you.

I’ve lost coworkers - fellow firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and dispatchers - and I’ve also seen family members and friends fight through it with a kind of strength that’s hard to put into words. So this climb is for them.

For the ones we’ve lost.

For the ones still fighting.

For the ones who made it through and keep showing up.

I also get to do this alongside my brother, which makes it even more meaningful. We grew up side by side, and now we’re both part of the first responder world - so being able to take this on together, for the people we’ve worked with and the community we’re part of, just feels full circle.

This isn’t just about the physical challenge. It’s about showing up for the people who have always shown up for others - on the front lines, behind the radio, and everywhere in between.

If you’re wondering where donations go, they support Wellspring Alberta, which provides free programs, services, and support to individuals living with cancer, as well as their families and caregivers. No one should have to face something like that alone. If you want to learn more about Wellspring Alberta, you can check out wellspringalberta.ca.

A portion of the proceeds also supports the Firefighters Assistance Charitable Society (FACS), which focuses on supporting and strengthening the firefighter community.

Donations are tax-deductible and can be made online.

Any support - whether that’s donating or sharing - makes a real difference.
