Why We Ride

Every day in Canada, over 600 men, women and children are diagnosed with cancer. At some point in their journey, almost every one of these people will experience potentially crippling emotional, physical or practical challenges that the health care system is unable to address. This is where Wellspring makes such a profound difference.

Wellspring provides cancer patients with the supportive care programs and services that help them improve the quality of their lives, all at no charge.

Every year, Wellspring provides supportive care for more than 10,000 people across Canada, both in our centres and online. Wellspring receives no government or hospital funding, and it is only through the generosity of grateful patients, generous donors, corporate partners and event participants that Wellspring is able to provide this type of care so desperately needed by those with cancer, and their loved ones.

The Need

Hearing the words “you have cancer” can be debilitating.  Six hundred Canadians are diagnosed with cancer every day, and 80% have significant physical, emotional, and financial challenges that go well beyond the important medical treatments they receive in hospital.  That’s where Wellspring fits in.

Our Impact

Across Canada last year, Wellspring served over 10,000 individuals with members noting improvement to their health, wellbeing and overall quality of life. We seek to reach significantly more people next year with your help!

How the Ride Supports Wellspring

Each rider raises money as part of their participation in the Wellspring Ride for Cancer Support. This money goes directly to Wellspring and can help fund any number of crucial programs. These funds help provide the many supportive care programs and services offered at Wellspring, to help those living with cancer and their loved ones overcome the practical, emotional, physical and informational challenges that come with a diagnosis. For example:

  • Raise $600 and provide 2 families with access to short-term counselling
  • Raise $1,000 and provide one person with the opportunity to participate in a 20-week, personalized Cancer Exercise program
  • Raise $4,500 and provide 96 individuals with access to 8 sessions of Nourish
