Help me support Wellspring this Giving Tuesday
Dear friends and family,
I want to make a pre-holiday gift-giving request. Even now
it’s a bit rushed but I don’t think you’ll regret it, so here we go:
Since my breast cancer diagnosis of 2011, I’ve been involved
with a remarkable organization called Wellspring Cancer Support Foundation.
Recommended to me by a friend, I walked through Wellspring’s doors the day
before my mastectomy and, 13 years later, I’m still walking through their doors
- although with a different purpose. A cancer diagnosis is an all-encompassing
“lifestyle” change; a gut-punch that hits the patient and all those who know
and love that person. No matter the cancer type, stage, grade, aggressiveness,
your life is changed and challenged - as was mine.
For the first three years of my treatments (surgery,
chemotherapy, radiation and many, many medications) Wellspring supported me
with numerous FREE programs that helped me navigate my new life and direction.
I did yoga, chi life, a specialized exercise program, art therapy, nutrition
classes, relaxation and visualization, Reiki sessions and The Healing Journey.
ALL FREE. Wellspring’s programs gave me emotional, physical, social and
practical support. It helped me redeem a quality of life that, at times, could
feel desperate.
Its centres are staffed by caring and compassionate leaders
and practitioners - and hundreds of volunteers like myself. For the past 10
years I’ve been a weekly Wellspring volunteer offering peer support and
covering the front desk. During that time this organization has increased its
offers of both in-house and online services, being accessible to patients and
families. Wellspring is an incredible organization and, incredibly, receives NO
hospital or government support. It is entirely donation-supported.
I am so grateful for ALL my years with Wellspring. There is no way to change a cancer diagnosis but there IS a way to help people live with that diagnosis. I believe that the Wellspring Cancer Support Foundation can help in leading the way.
Can you please support them on this Wellspring Volunteer Giving Tuesday? Please.
With love and thanks, Jean
