Well Dressed for Spring 2026

I'm fundraising for Wellspring…

It has taken me a long time to get to this place where I am finally more open about my situation. I guess on some level I have had to catch my breath. It's very hard to be vulnerable, but as Brene Brown states, "vulnerability is the birthplace of love, belonging, joy, courage, empathy and creativity." 

I was diagnosed with breast cancer on a cold dark Friday night at the end of November in 2024. I received the phone call around 8:00 pm – how could I forget? My heart broke and it would continue to break as it took six weeks to diagnose me – way too long, but that’s a story for another day.  I was relatively young at 46 and naturally I was shocked and stunned.  I walked around in a state of overwhelming fear and despair throughout that Christmas season, keeping it together for my young daughter. There was no cancer in my family and special genetic testing would reveal that I had no genes that made me susceptible to cancer. I believe significant stress over a sustained amount of time was a big contributor to my breast cancer.  Lesson number one for me was that I needed to look after myself as opposed to always putting everyone else first.  This is an ongoing struggle. 

Lesson number two is that cancer is a force that promotes internal change. We live in a culture that embraces success and beauty, eternal youth and rampant consumption, and cancer feels like the opposite, but intense suffering has its place in our lives too.  Suffering is a catalyst for growth, endurance, perseverance, reflection and introspection, a recalibration of priorities and invariably a refining of one’s very nature and character. This doesn’t make it easy and it doesn’t make it fair, I get that, I live it. I have been trying to work with what comes my way, leaning in and learning. Cancer has allowed me to keep my focus on the most important things in my life "the fab five": my faith in God (who has been so good and gracious to me even in a very harrowing time), my family, my friends, fitness and of course, fun (I love alliteration).  

On March 25th, 2026 I will be walking the runway at Well Dressed for Spring in support of Wellspring Cancer Support Foundation at the Quay.  This event raises money for the programs and services at Wellspring, at no cost to individuals and families living with cancer.  

Thank you to everyone for making my campaign such a smashing success!  I have been wrapped in love, kindness, generosity and ongoing support throughout the last 16 months and it is so healing. I live in a place of profound gratitude for each day that I am here and you have all been a tremendous encouragement to me.  Thank you again!  You still have time to donate. JUST DO IT!

Do You Like a Good Story ?

My fundraising campaign is now over $67,000 !!  Wow ! Thank you. 
 I love a good story, who doesn’t right ? I also love connections and cycles and full circle moments.  So here goes…on a cold winter evening in 1992 my parents, undeterred by inclement weather, attended an evening hosted by Anne Armstrong Gibson in Toronto. The night began by seeing the musical Napoleon (fun fact my dad was an investor in the production ) and then they all sat down to an elegant dinner inspired by the wedding of Napoleon to Josephine — apparently it was a spectacular event.  My dad had always understood that life could be incredibly hard and when he heard Anne Gibson stand up and share her own personal journey with cancer along with her desire to help others in a similar situation, my dad was compelled to provide financial support. The evening was a monumental one for Wellspring as it all came to fruition that evening;  Wellspring  would go on to make a lasting impact on countless lives affected by cancer. 

How could my parents ever have known that 33 years later,  I too would benefit so profoundly from Wellspring in my own cancer journey.  Wellspring has been a refuge and a retreat, always reminding me I am not alone.  I hope anyone battling cancer and specifically breast cancer doesn’t feel alone, support is available. I am here if I can help and so is Wellspring. Truly.

A Heartwarming Online House Party! 🎈 🍾 🥂

Monday 16th Mar
Today is a big day ! My fundraising campaign for Wellspring achieved over $60,000 in donations. I am incredulous of all this support and by my count there have been 113 donations to date.  I am so deeply touched by this online house party with so many people from all different parts of my life. It’s truly unbelievable, I am filled with immense gratitude for all of you.  Truth be told when I set my original goal of $40,000, I had some reservations that it might be too ambitious.  But like my cancer journey instead of getting overwhelmed, you just go day by day, and donation by donation, and things started moving forward and they haven’t stopped. Thank you 🙏🏻. 

In addition to all this online support , I want to thank my husband Greg who has been unwavering in his support of me and this ongoing journey.  I want to thank our close circle of friends who have never left our side and have been endlessly supportive and gracious.  I want to thank our extended  families — you all have been amazing to me, Greg and Georgia.  I want to thank my very best girlfriends( including my sister) who have been with me through numerous infusions, biopsies, oncologist meetings, MRIs, surgeries, CT scans, PET scans and when I was in chemotherapy arranged dinners for me to go out and feel normal.  Thank you.
